A trade website has one job: turn a stranger on a phone into a call, a text or an email. In Toronto, that stranger is usually comparing you with three or four other companies in separate browser tabs, often standing in a hallway or a basement. If your page is slow, vague or hides the phone number, they close the tab and call the next one.
What a Toronto trade website must do in the first five seconds
Answer three questions before the visitor scrolls:
- Do you do the job I need? The service name in the headline, in the customer's words.
- Do you work where I am? A line naming the parts of the city you serve, and proof such as photos of local jobs.
- How do I reach you right now? Call, text and email buttons visible without scrolling, and a phone number people can read.
Everything else, such as company history, certifications and philosophy, belongs further down the page. Owners often want to lead with their story. Customers want to know if you can come on Thursday.
What's included
- Speed work. Pages that load quickly on mobile data, with compressed images and no heavy sliders or autoplay video.
- One page per service. Each with what the job involves, what affects the price, what the visit looks like, and which areas you cover.
- Area pages only with proof. Where you have real jobs, photos and details from a neighbourhood or building type, we write a page for it. Where you don't, we don't.
- Condo and commercial sections. If you serve towers or businesses, dedicated pages that speak to managers, boards and owners, including a capabilities page for commercial buyers.
- Trust signals you can back up. Licence and registration details where your trade requires them, insurance status, real crew photos and links to your Google reviews. Nothing invented.
- Call, text and email tracking. So you know which pages and channels produce contacts.
- Ownership. Domain, hosting access, analytics and Google accounts in your name.
Timeline
| Project | Typical length |
|---|---|
| Fixing an existing site (speed, structure, copy on key pages) | 3 to 6 weeks |
| New site for a single-trade business | 6 to 10 weeks |
| Larger site with condo, commercial and multiple service lines | 10 to 14 weeks |
The schedule usually depends on how quickly we get photos, job details and approvals from your team. We'll tell you exactly what we need in the first week.
How we measure results
The core number is conversion rate: the share of visitors who call, text or email. We report it by page and by traffic source, so you can see whether a page earns its place. We also track phone calls from the site, text taps, email clicks and, where you share it, the jobs those contacts became.
If a page draws traffic and no contacts, we rewrite it. If it draws neither, we question whether it should exist.
Mistakes we fix most often
- The phone number is an image or buried in the footer. Make it tappable and visible at the top.
- Stock photos of smiling models. Customers recognise them. Your real van and crew are more persuasive.
- "Serving the GTA" and nothing else. Name the districts and neighbourhoods you actually reach; see our Toronto areas page for how the city breaks down.
- One long page for every service. A furnace repair visitor and a condo renovation visitor need different pages.
- A site the owner can't edit or move. If your current agency controls the hosting and won't hand over access, plan your exit carefully.
How it connects
A strong website lowers the cost of Google Ads and makes local SEO work harder, because both send visitors to it. For a sense of what a well-built site can carry, HeatLand grew to 850+ SEO articles with a 300% lead increase in 6 months. That is a result from our HVAC work; the results page explains what transfers to your trade.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a new website or can mine be fixed?
Often it can be fixed. If the site is on a platform you control and the main problems are speed, structure and copy, repairs are cheaper. If you can't log in or the platform is locked, a rebuild usually costs less in the long run.
Who owns the website and domain?
You do. The domain is registered in your name, and you keep admin access to the site, analytics and any accounts we set up.
Are websites included in your plans?
On Trades.Agency plans, Elite includes 50% off website design packages and Enterprise includes a free website design and build of any package. Growth plans can be combined with website work quoted separately.
Should we have a page for every Toronto neighbourhood?
No. Pages for places where you have no real proof are thin, and search engines treat mass-produced location pages as doorway content. Write area pages only where you can show genuine local work.
