We cover the entire City of Toronto. That means every one of the 158 official neighbourhoods the City uses for social planning, spread across the six municipalities that were merged into one city on 1 January 1998. The full list appears further down this page, grouped by district. Above it, we explain what each district means for a trades or service business deciding where to market.

Neighbourhoods and communities we cover
Single-tier city formed on 1 January 1998 from Metropolitan Toronto and its six municipalities (old City of Toronto, Etobicoke, North York, Scarborough, York, East York). Council is elected from 25 wards. The City's Social Development, Finance & Administration division maintains 158 official social-planning neighbourhoods (expanded from 140 in 2022). Neighbourhoods below are grouped by the former municipality containing the largest share of each neighbourhood's area (spatial overlay of the City's open-data Neighbourhoods and Former Municipality Boundaries layers); Runnymede-Bloor West Village straddles York (53%) and old Toronto (47%), and Forest Hill South is 94% old Toronto / 6% York.

How to read Toronto as a marketer
Toronto had 2,794,356 residents in the 2021 Census, in 1,160,890 occupied private dwellings. Across the city, detached houses made up 23.3% of homes, semis 6.2% and row houses 5.4%. Apartment buildings of five storeys or more held a much larger share: 46.7%. That is the single most important fact for planning trade marketing here: the typical customer is as likely to live in a tower as in a house.
The city is governed through 25 wards, but nobody searches by ward. People search by the names they use every day: a neighbourhood, a main street, or one of the former municipalities. Our grouping below follows the City's own boundary data, assigning each neighbourhood to the former municipality that holds the largest share of its area.
The district averages hide large differences, so before committing a budget we always check the specific neighbourhoods you serve rather than assuming. If you only take one idea from this page, take this one: choose a cluster of neighbourhoods close to your base, and market to them as if they were a small town.
Old Toronto (former City of Toronto)
The former City of Toronto holds 50 of the 158 neighbourhoods, nearly a third of the official list, from Harbourfront-CityPlace and Yonge-Bay Corridor in the core to Lawrence Park North, The Beaches and High Park-Swansea at the edges. Many of the city's Business Improvement Areas sit here, including Kensington Market, Chinatown, Little Italy, Little Portugal Toronto, Roncesvalles Village, The Junction, Leslieville, The Beach, Cabbagetown, Church-Wellesley Village, Corso Italia, Liberty Village, CityPlace and Fort York, and Downtown Yonge.
What it means for marketing: competition is at its sharpest here, because so many service companies are based in or near the core. Parking, loading and building access also shape what customers ask about before they call. Trades that win in old Toronto tend to specialise: condo suite work, commercial accounts along the BIA strips, or a tight residential radius around one main street. Our condo and high-rise service and commercial marketing pages explain those two paths.
Etobicoke
Etobicoke covers 22 neighbourhoods on the city's west side, from Long Branch, New Toronto, Mimico-Queensway and Humber Bay Shores along the lake to Thistletown-Beaumond Heights, Rexdale-Kipling and West Humber-Clairville in the north. Three wards carry its name: Etobicoke North, Etobicoke Centre and Etobicoke-Lakeshore. Its BIAs include Long Branch, Mimico Village, Mimico By The Lake, Humber Bay Shores, The Kingsway, Village of Islington and Shop The Queensway.
What it means for marketing: the district's north and south ends are far apart, and a crew based near the lake may find northern Etobicoke as distant as parts of Mississauga. Treat south and north Etobicoke as separate service areas with separate pages and ad targeting. Many Etobicoke businesses also work across the western boundary in Mississauga, which is worth planning for deliberately rather than by accident.
North York
North York is the second-largest group, with 37 neighbourhoods. They run from Bathurst Manor, Bayview Village and Willowdale West through Don Valley Village, Flemingdon Park and Banbury-Don Mills, to Downsview, York University Heights, Black Creek and Humber Summit in the west. BIAs here include Hillcrest Village and Yonge North York.
What it means for marketing: North York is too wide to treat as one target. The east-west spread means a single "North York" campaign mixes very different drive times. Split it by corridor around your base, and test separately. Businesses near the northern edge often serve Vaughan and Markham too; if that's you, decide which side of the boundary gets the stronger pages, because spreading thinly across both rarely wins either.
Scarborough
Scarborough has 30 neighbourhoods and six wards bearing its name: Scarborough Southwest, Centre, Agincourt, North, Guildwood and Rouge Park. Its neighbourhoods stretch from Birchcliffe-Cliffside and Cliffcrest on the bluffs to Agincourt North, Milliken and Steeles in the north and Highland Creek, Morningside Heights and West Rouge in the east. BIAs include Wexford Heights and Cedarbrae Markham Lawrence Village.
What it means for marketing: Scarborough is large enough to be a full market for a trade based there, and many east-end businesses build their whole operation around it. Pages that name specific Scarborough neighbourhoods tend to read as more trustworthy than a generic "Toronto" page to someone in Malvern or Guildwood. To the east, Pickering is a natural extension; to the north, Markham.
York
The former City of York is small, with 11 neighbourhoods, including Weston, Mount Dennis, Oakwood Village, Humewood-Cedarvale, Lambton Baby Point, Caledonia-Fairbank and Rockcliffe-Smythe. Runnymede-Bloor West Village sits on the line: 53% of it falls in York and 47% in old Toronto. BIAs with matching names include Weston Village, Mount Dennis, Oakwood Village, Baby Point Gates, Fairbank Village, Bloor West Village and York-Eglinton.
What it means for marketing: York shows why official boundaries and local names don't always line up. In the City's grouping, Weston-Pelham Park counts as old Toronto while Weston counts as York. Customers don't care. Write pages in the language residents use, such as "Weston" or "Bloor West Village", and let the official map guide your targeting rather than your headlines.
East York
East York is the smallest district, with 8 neighbourhoods: Broadview North, Danforth East York, Leaside-Bennington, O'Connor-Parkview, Old East York, Taylor-Massey, Thorncliffe Park and Woodbine-Lumsden. Bayview Leaside BIA serves the Leaside area, and the Danforth corridor's BIAs, such as Greektown on the Danforth, Danforth Mosaic and Danforth Village, sit along a street whose neighbourhoods span old Toronto and East York.
What it means for marketing: a compact district is a gift for a small trade. A company based nearby can realistically aim to be the familiar name across all eight neighbourhoods, then extend into the adjoining parts of old Toronto and North York. This is where a neighbourhood-cluster approach to local SEO pays off fastest.
Nearby municipalities
Many Toronto crews also work in Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham and Pickering. The housing mix changes sharply once you cross the city line. In the 2021 Census, 37.1% of Mississauga's occupied dwellings were single-detached houses, compared with 62.5% in Vaughan and 56.2% in Markham, and 23.3% in Toronto. A condo-focused Toronto pitch won't land the same way in a suburb of detached homes, so cross-boundary pages need their own message.
Ontario regulators to know
We market trades businesses; we don't advise on licensing or compliance. These are the provincial bodies most Toronto trades deal with:
- Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA)
- Electrical Safety Authority (ESA)
- Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)
- Skilled Trades Ontario

Frequently asked questions
Do you cover every part of Toronto?
Yes. We work with businesses based anywhere in the City of Toronto, across all 158 official neighbourhoods, and with Toronto crews that also serve Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham or Pickering.
Should my business target the whole city?
Usually not. Local search results depend partly on distance from the searcher, so most trades do better by owning a cluster of neighbourhoods near their base and using ads selectively beyond it.
Why do you use the old municipality names?
Because customers still do. Etobicoke, North York, Scarborough, York and East York have been part of one city since 1998, but people search, talk and give directions using those names, so your pages should too.
Will you build a separate page for each neighbourhood?
No. A page per neighbourhood with nothing new on it is doorway content. We write area pages only where your business has real local proof to show.
